AUSTIN -- Austin's airport is expanding.
The city's growth means more business coming in and out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
During an afternoon news conference at ABIA, Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole
announced plans for a new expansion project.
There will be additional security checkpoints to relieve congestion. Baggage claim will be enlarged to handle more passengers, and the customs area will be expanded to accommodate more international travelers.
The Austin City Council authorized the $50 million expansion project last December. A final council vote is expected next Thursday.
The project should be completed by 2015.
