AUSTIN – It was an emotion-packed Tuesday evening inside the Texas State Capitol Tuesday evening moments after the Texas House of Representatives voted 98 to 49 in favor of the controversial House Bill 2.

Abortion rights advocates gathered under the rotunda shouting “shame, shame, shame” as Texas lawmakers exited the House floor.

Texas Democrats took nine hours Tuesday offering a total of 26 amendments to the HB 2, none of which were accepted.

HB 2 restricts abortion procedures after 20 weeks and effectively closes all but a few of the state’s more than 40 clinics.

The Texas House has its 3rd and final vote on HB 2 on Wednesday. The measure then goes to the Texas Senate for approval.
