AUSTIN -- Elizabeth Smart will be the featured speaker at Helping Hand Home for Children's luncheon in Austin later this month.
Smart will speak at the 14th Annual Champions for Children Awards Luncheon on Tuesday Oct. 22 at noon at the Hilton Austin Hotel.
Smart's abduction case captured the nation's attention back in 2002. She was only 14 when she was kidnapped from her home in Utah. She was held prisoner for nine months, but was eventually found alive and safely returned to her family.
She will be autographing copies of her new book, My Story, after the luncheon.
Proceeds from the event benefit Helping Hand Home for Children, which provides a therapeutic home for children who have suffered severe abuse and neglect. The home has been helping children since 1893 and serves more than 150 children each year through all of its programs.
