Update 2/18/13: The cab was found Monday morning.

__________

AUSTIN -- An Austin cab company is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of one of its electric cars stolen Saturday morning from a charging station on E. Cesar Chavez Street.

Chris Nielsen, the CEO of Electric Cab of Austin, says the thief couldn't have gotten far with the vehicle, because its battery power was running low.

Nielsen says the cab is one of a fleet of 16 cars  that service the downtown area seven nights a week, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

He says the company has been in business five years and nothing has ever been stolen before.

The company has also designed six-seater electric cars. You will see them on the streets of Austin the first week of March.
