December started with a blast of freezing air and snow in the southwest. El Paso saw two inches of snow overnight.
The winter storm that blew through the desert southwest blanketed the borderland in snow.
“I like it,” said Fabiola Licon, El Paso resident. “It's out of the ordinary, it's nice.”
While the wintry weather was fun for some families, the freezing temperatures and icy roads also posed a hazard.
“It's good to see the seasons in El Paso. A lot of people aren't from here, they kind of miss that. With that we have to remember; we have to be careful on the roads and allot enough time to get to where we're going to go,” Mario Silva, El Paso resident.
A Dallas couple visiting the area was caught off guard. They got lost driving in the desert as the snow storm hit. Rescue workers found them 24 hours later. They spent the night stranded in their car.
“Watch your speed and give plenty of room for emergency responders and our folks who are out there,” said Gilbert Jordan, Texas Department of Transportation
It’s good advice for motorists elsewhere as the winter storm that hit far West Texas sweeps across the state.
