AUSTIN -- Early voting for the May 11th election begins Monday in Austin.
The big item on the ballot is Austin ISD's $892 million bond proposal, which is drawing new questions.
The bond is broken up into four propositions:
- $350 million for renovations and repairs
- $234 million for safety, security and relieving overcrowding
- $170 million for academic initatives, fine arts and athletics
- $140 million for health, envrionment and technology
But, according to the Statesman, there are some discrepancies in some of the budgeted costs in the package.
Their findings reveal that outdoor restrooms and concession store-rooms are budgeted at $10 million but will likely cost $2 million.
New indoor bleachers are budgeted at $591 thousand but the district only paid a fraction of that cost to replace the bleachers at Travis High Schools.
Members of the citizen's committe that drew up the proposal say everyone worked hard on it, and AISD trustees tried to be fair
