AUSTIN -- Wednesday the EMS Advisory Board received an update on the ambulance fleet. This comes after a KVUE Defender's Investigation last week about the alarming increase of Austin-Travis County EMS ambulance breakdowns.

In a three-year period EMS experienced 338 "critical failures" where an ambulance couldn't complete a call. That's an average of about once every three days.

The board is expected to use this information to make recommendations to council on how to fix the problem.
