AUSTIN -- Austin-Travis County EMS crews responded to two crashes on I-35 near Slaughter Lane in South Austin Friday morning.

One crash occurred on northbound lanes, while the second crash happened on southbound lanes.

The crashes initially shut down I-35 in both directions. Just before 10:35 a.m. the Texas Department of Transportation tweeted that southbound lanes had reopened. Northbound lanes are reopened.

Austin police and EMS say one person was ejected from a vehicle and transported to UMC Brackenridge hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A total of five people were injured. Four cars were involved.
