AUSTIN -- Two women were kidnapped, and one assaulted, by men who offered them a ride on Sixth St.
In downtown Austin, Sixth St. is famous for its bars and nightlife. Kaye Porter, visiting Austin, says 6th Street is the place to be for fun.
"Everyone knows Sixth Street in Austin. Everyone knows where you want to go have fun," Porter said.
A night of fun turned into a morning of terror for two sisters visiting from San Antonio. Investigators say the 29-year-old and 25-year-old went drinking along Sixth St. in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28.
One of the sisters lost her keys and her cell phone. Three men offered them a ride, saying they would drop them off at their hotel.
"These men saw two women who were standng there looking like they needed help, and they offered help, but unfortunately they were not given help," Travis County spokesperson Lisa Block said.
Detectives with the Travis County Sheriff' Office say instead of taking the women to their hotel, the men drove them to a wooded area on Imperial Drive in the northeastern part of the county. When the women tried to escape, the men allegedly dragged the younger sister back to the car to assault her and left the older sister behind. She ran to a nearby home for help.
"She was able to go to a house and call 9-1-1. Shortly after the men brought the other woman back to that same area, and she was able to make it to the house. And they were there together, and sheriff's deputies arrived," block said.
Deputies later arrested Destin Edinborough and Johnny Andrade. They are still looking for George Gabino.
All three are charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. Crimes that started with a ride on Sixth St.
"Don't get in a car with a stranger; take a cab home," Porter said.
