DEL VALLE, Texas -- A standoff at a Del Valle home forced a nearby school to delay its opening Tuesday morning.
Popham Elementary School will start two hours late. All other Del Valle ISD schools will keep a normal schedule.
Travis County Sheriff's deputies responded around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday to a home near the school on Proud Panda Drive. They say a concerned friend called to report a man inside was was threatening suicide.
Three other adults and two kids were removed from the house. The suspect came out, but then he tried to run back into the home. Deputies say they used stun guns and tackled the man.
He was arrested and taken into protective custody around 6:30 a.m. The Travis County Sheriff's Office says it appeared the man was intoxicated.
The SWAT team was on standby but didn't respond to the scene.
No charges have yet been filed.
