A pilot was killed after a plane crash near the Burnet Municipal Airport. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the crash happened around noon Saturday.
The plane was a home made, single-engine Sonex.
According to that FAA spokesperson, the pilot was coming in from Kingsland near Lake LBJ. He radioed a friend he was having trouble moments before the plane crashed in a field about a mile short of the Burnet Municipal Airport runway.
The name of the pilot has not been released. Authorities did say he was a retired military pilot and the only person on board.
FAA records show the plane is registered to a Louis M. Harris out of Spicewood in southern Burnet County.
Investigators with the FAA were expected to arrive on the scene Saturday night.
