Congress returns to work to avoid government shutdown

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate votes today on a Democratic bill to extend government spending until November and to put more money into FEMA's disaster relief fund.

But the Senate's top Republican believes he has enough votes to block it.

Senate Democrats shot down the House Republican version last week because it offset disaster relief funding with cuts from clean energy programs.

KVUE's Washington Bureau Reporter Dave Cassidy joined us from Capitol Hill to explain.
