AUSTIN -- The City of Austin is switching to 100 percent green power. That makes the city the largest local government in the country to power all of its facilities with 100 percent green energy.
The switch to renewable energy begins Oct. 1.
All City of Austin facilities from neighborhood libraries, rec centers, to police and fire stations are taking part by using a green choice renewable energy product.
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell issued this statement: "We will continue to lead American cities by maintaining our community vision. I am hopeful that other cities will be inspired to follow suit."
