A message board outside a church in Dogtown saying "Firefighters rescue…only Jesus saves lives" has many in the area outraged about what they say is an offensive move that some people claimed was on purpose.

As the story out of Arizona was breaking where 19 firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty…the picture started making the rounds on social media.

The message was posted on a board in front of the St. Louis Bible Fellowship for five days before it was taken down. "The sign has been on the board since Saturday…the firefighters were killed Sunday.

When asked if church pastor Rick Owsley understood why people were offended he said " "Absolutely and that’s why as soon as I realized what had been put on the board I had it taken down.”

Owsley says one of his volunteers put the message up while he was out of town. As soon as he heard about the message he had it removed immediately.

He says. "I believe a lot of people have misunderstood thinking that was in reference to firefighters who bravely gave their lives in Arizona."

The pastor says he's even been threatened because of the message. To those he's offended, he's sorry.

"Unfortunately it was bad timing…bad timing,” says Owsley.
