You probably think if you can eat most carbs today you won't end up in the hospital tomorrow -- that may not be the case.
Susan Hendricks tells us what doctors are discovering about Celiac disease that could affect you now.
Celiac is a disease that damages the villi of the small intestine, which keeps nutrients from being absorbed, and it causes great discomfort. It's triggered by eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley and rye.
Celiac disease is typically diagnosed in kids, but research shows it can flare up at any age. A researcher explained that people can lose the capability to tolerate gluten after they eat it for a few weeks, while some people may go for 60 or 70 years before losing the capability.
Researchers are trying to understand why people develop Celiac, so they can find better ways to treat Celiac patients of all ages.
