AUSTIN -- The driver of a car that crashed into a Northeast Austin home Friday afternoon died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash occurred Friday around 3:30 p.m. on North Hampton Drive, south of U.S. 290 and east of U.S. 183 and Manor Road.

Austin police say a police officer was in the area when witnesses flagged him down saying a car was upside-down inside a home.

Police say the driver, a 30-year-old black male with a felony warrant for an unknown crime, had to be extracted from the car. He was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge where he died.

The man who lives in the home was not injured. However, the crash destroyed the home's kitchen and bathroom, so the home doesn't have any water or gas and won't for a few days. The man is receiving help from the Red Cross and family and friends.

No identification will be made until next of kin is notified.

This is Austin's 5th fatality of the year.
