The Centers for Disease Control says the swine flu isn't the only thing we need to worry about. There are dozens of fraudulent products on the market that promise to help prevent it.
The CDC has even added a warning on its Web site, which currently features 143 fraudulent products.
The list includes antiseptics, body wash, gels, gloves, hand sanitizers and more.
Viraban is a foaming hand sanitizer that claims on its Web site to be recommended by the CDC. That’s not true, unless mention on a fraud list is a recommendation.
Eleven of the products claim to work in ventilation systems.
By far, the longest list is in the supplement category where there are dozens of products claiming to help fight swine flu. The CDC warns none of those claims is proven.
Some of the products exposed on the CDC list have already removed any flu-specific claims. Three different Silver Soft skin products are still being sold, but now there is no longer any mention of flu.
The CDC says don’t expect to see the fraudulant products drop off while the flu season is still young.
