LAFAYETTE, LA -- A bus from Bastrop, Texas crashed near Lafayette, Louisiana in the town of Kinder Wednesday afternoon.
Louisiana State Police say 46 people were on board when the bus collided with the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet truck near Highway 165 and Highway 101. There were no major injuries to people aboard the bus, though seven were transported to area hospitals.
Multiple news reports out of Louisiana say the group on the bus are members of the Bastrop First National Bank Senior Group. Police say the group was traveling to Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, LA.
The driver of the truck, 67-year-old Anthony Pitre Sr. of Lake Charles, LA failed to yield the right of way to the bus according to police. The driver of the bus, Amos G. Monts, 50, attempted to avoid the collision but failed to do so.
Pitre was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say routine toxicology results were taken from both drivers. The crash remains under investigation.
“While the exact cause of this crash remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state,” police said.
