AUSTIN -- Construction crews and cranes surround the Domain shopping center in North Austin, proof there is more growth in the future.
Austin has been watching and waiting while they build the new Whole Foods grocer, which is now set to open Jan 15. Even retail trailers are now popping up in the Domain. Pierre Fay is the co-founder of Starling Eyewear. You pick the frames and lenses, reading or sunglasses, and he customizes them right there.
There are plans for more bars and restaurants in the Domain, plus stores are opening in Phase II. Cakeball's Rachael Treadwell has watched growth since opening the store in December 2011.
"If you go to Houston or Dallas and you mention the Domain, everyone knows what you are talking about. So when they come into town, they know to come here," said Treadwell.
Cakeball has recently been rebranded as Copper. Along with cake balls, the restaurant also has a full menu and artisan cocktails.
But don't worry, there's a way to work off all the indulgence. Shawn Martinez is the CEO of FX Fit. His workout center serves residents of the Domain. Others can buy classes or personal training.
"I see the community growing together, it's not just a place to shop anymore," said Martinez.
There are plans to build more apartments as well as hotels in the future.
