AUSTIN -- Dozens of breast cancer survivors and their families were honored Sunday at the Renaissance Hotel.

It was part of a cookbook release party for “Comfort Cooking: Food that Makes us Smile” -- a cookbook that features those survivor's recipes.

KVUE’s Terri Gruca emceed Sunday’s event and was awarded the fourth annual Michelle Bastas Award. Gruca’s own mother is one of the survivors featured in the cookbook.

This is the sixth book Austin photographer Bill Bastas has put together. He lost his own wife to the disease eight years ago and afterwards began The Smile Never Fades charity to give back. Over the years the organization has donated nearly $25,000 to local breast cancer survivors.

Proceeds from the cookbook will pay for concierge care for local patients undergoing breast cancer treatment, organizing and arranging transportation, housecleaning and food delivery.
