AUSTIN -- People flocked to blood centers in Austin Friday, hoping to help save a life.
The men and women at Camp Mabry told KVUE News they are praying for the wounded soldiers, have offered support and are ready to help if need be.
On Friday, more names were called at the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas in Central Austin.
“We have probably double the number of donors than we usually do,” said Nancy Stugart , COO of the Blood and Tissue Center.
Donors are turning out to help save the lives of soldiers after the worst mass shooting ever on a US military instillation.
“I saw about the multiple shooting victims on the TV and decided I needed to come in and donate blood,” said Deann Slivensky, blood donor.
“I believe the soldiers are the heroes here. You're donating blood not only for the soldiers affected by this tragedy but my community in Central Texas,” said Douglas Doyna, blood donor.
From the capitol to UT and across Austin, flags were flying at half staff.
On Saturday, DKR-Royal Memorial Stadium will be full of fans. Before the game there will be a flyover and a moment of silence for those wounded and killed in Thursday's mass shooting.

I wish there were more stories like this, where it shows the true worth of the community and the people who donate their blood to help others. I am tired of the the thugs and punks of Austin always grabbing the headlines. The newsmedia needs to be more responsible in what they cover and how they cover it. The Sanders case is a good example of how the media makes it look like this POS was a good boy. The media trys to make it look like the entire community is against APD, which is a LIE. It is just the low-life community which are always against these fine people and society as a whole. I guess now the media here in Austin will try and make it look like this muslim coward at Ft. Hood was just misunderstood. Maybe they will show his high school picture and not mention all the anti-American statements he has been making. The media should be made to tell the complete truth and not their special spin on what they are reporting. Dare to Dream
