AUSTIN, TX (KVUE) - Call it a Thanksgiving miracle, four hours until door buster deals at a north Austin Target and not a crowd or even car in sight.

"l just want to shop," laughed shopper Ruth Peak. "Get in there and have fun."

The lack of competition only made dream items seem so much closer.

"We're looking for a mattress and we're looking for a big screen TV," said DJ Hall.

It's hard to beat a good TV sale, it's what brought the line at a Best Buy a few miles away, even if it meant missing Thanksgiving turkey.

"One year ain't going to kill me," smiled Brittaney Williams. "Plus there's leftovers."

For food, maybe, but for big dollar savings Rachel Blizzard isn't taking any chances.

"By the time the store opens, I'll have been here for 31 hours," admitted Blizzard. "We get people who just drive by and wave like, 'There's the crazy person.'"

Crazy or smart, Blizzard, her best friend, and Uncle Flash are number 1,2,3 in line for their number one item, a 40" Toshiba TV for just $179.

If you thought about cutting in line think again, Blizzard came prepared, "It's totally real," she laughed as she pulled out a can of pepper spray.

The deal dedication isn't for everyone. Old Navy stayed open until early evening, luring shoppers with deals up to 75% off.

"I kind of feel for the employees here," admitted shopper Michael Augustine. "They're having to spend time here while we're shopping."

With 17 percent of all U.S. Shoppers expected to turn out Black Friday, "Grey Thursday" brought only a taste of what's to come, but for those prepared it tasted pretty good.

"That's our dinner," smiled Blizzard as she dished up a Thanksgiving meal brought by friends. "Enjoying good family and friends here, it's almost like camping."

Almost, but who needs a campfire for a shot at a big screen.
