State lawmakers battled a midnight deadline on Wednesday evening. Two controversial pieces of legislation failed to pass; both died at the stroke of midnight.

While the House of Representatives supported the so-called Sanctuary City Bill, it died among Senators.

The bill would have allowed law enforcement to check the immigration status of individuals who are pulled over for an unrelated crime.

The Senate also failed to pass a bill banning invasive airport pat downs.

On Thursday, the focus on the floor centers on the budget.

Legislation calling for more than $3 billion from the Rainy Day Fund will head to Governor Rick Perry's desk. State senators gave it the final okay on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a committee of members from the House and Senate will finish out the rest of the budget details in an early morning meeting. The Budget Conference Committee is expected to formally adopt the budget and send it to both chambers for final approval. It will need a simple majority vote to become law.
