BASTROP COUNTY, Texas -- Bastrop ISD is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Education after complaints of discrimination, according to our content-partners Austin-American Statesman.
Federal officials are planning an on-site visit after an unidentified person complained to the Civil Rights office.
The original complaint was filed with the OCR in August 2011, according to a letter sent to parents by Superintendent Steve Murray.
“We take all allegations or claims regarding discrimination against students or staff very seriously and we fully investigate such when brought to our attention in the proper or prescribed manner,” Murray wrote.
The OCR has asked for two years worth of human resources data relative to hiring practices, among other things, the letter stated.
Murray said Bastrop ISD is cooperating fully with the OCR regarding this complaint and will continue to do so throughout this course of action.
