BASTROP COUNTY, Texas -- A gruesome find under a bridge in Bastrop launched an investigation in Bastrop County and it all started with a missing pet.
The Farmer family reported their dog, a white Pyrenees named Chazak, stolen a little over a month ago.
"We've had him since he was a three-month-old puppy. We purchased him to help out with guarding the livestock on the farm," Ellie Farmer said. "Unlike a lot of Pyrenees, Chazac never wandered."
They posted fliers all over town, and then a tip led them to a bridge on Watterson Road Wednesday, where they found their dog's remains and several others.
"It just floored us. We were not prepared, not prepared at all for what we found," Farmer said.
What they found were the remains of a white Pyrenees, almost unrecognizable except for the black collar around its neck.
"We have no doubts that this is our dog," Farmer said.
Also under the bridge lay bones and decaying carcasses of other dogs.
"The worst part is that before we found him we started finding the other bodies and we were following the stench and found several bodies before we came across him," Farmer said.
Bastrop County Animal Control says they did come out to take pictures and look for microchips. While they weren't able to ID any of the dogs, they did find at least six bodies laying on the ground underneath the edge of the bridge. They say they are investigating and at this point they believe a person is responsible.
"It's pretty clear when you see the bodies that this was not a four-legged predator, it was a two-legged predator," Farmer said. "In order to do something like this, they're not mentally sound."
Now, just like she didn't give up on finding Chazak, Farmer is determined to find the person responsible for this.
The Farmers are in the process of setting up a Facebook page in hopes of finding the other dogs' owners. They're also offering a reward to anyone with information about who killed them.
