Austin mayor honors East Austin barber shop

EAST AUSTIN -- The clippers were buzzing Saturday at the historic Ideal Barber Shop in East Austin.

The business has been open since 1947. That's 67 years.

On Saturday afternoon Mayor Lee Leffingwell issued a proclamation honoring the small business during Black History Month.

Leffingwell took advtange of the visit and also sat down for a trim to get ready for his last State of the City address.

"I just want to get trimmed up so I look my best. Sometimes that’s a very difficult job, but I’m sure these barbers are up to it with all their experience here in Austin," Leffingwell said.

Leffingwell has served two terms as mayor  and will make his speech Tuesday Feb. 25.

Leffingwell told KVUE one his his main goals during his last year as mayor will be pushing for the development of an urban rail system.
