AUSTIN -- Visitors from all over the world will flock to Austin for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix beginning Nov. 15, but on Sunday, Austin hosted the F1 in Schools World Finals at the Hyatt Regency.
Students from 22 different countries presented their model Formula 1 cars for scholarships. The 38 different teams designed, manufactured and raced the miniature cars on a 20-meter track. The cars covered the distance in just over one second.
"We've never made it this far. It's the first time for all of us," said Lone Star Racing Team member Chloe Scroggins. "Representing the United States of America and our home state of Texas is an extreme honor for our team."
In addition to the competition, the teams will get to visit the Circuit of the Americas and watch the races during the Grand Prix.
