AUSTIN -- An arrest affidavit identifies the victim of a murder in a Southeast Austin park as 34-year-old Rigoberto Briones.
The man charged in his death is 23-year-old Jose Miranda. Police stopped Miranda early Friday morning near Longhorn Dam and Roy Guerrero Park.
According to an arrest affidavit, Miranda was carrying a nine-millimeter handgun and told officers he had just shot someone. Police found Briones' body in a wooded area not far away.
The affidavit says Miranda told police he "shot Briones multiple times in the back." Then he approached the man and "shot him one final time before kicking him repeatedly in the head."
Miranda told police Briones had made several, unwanted sexual advances toward him earlier in the night. He planned to use the gun to scare Briones into stopping.
Miranda is being held on a $1 million bond.
