Austin Police continue to investigate a hit and run that sent 2 people to the hospital.

It all started during Tuesday night's Mardi Gras celebration in downtown.  Police say several fights broke out.  One of them led to several people being struck by a speeding car at the Wendy's restaurant at 7th Street and Interstate 35.

Officers tell KVUE News it all started at about 1:45 a.m., when two groups began throwing punches at 5th and Neches.  A third person joined the fight, and investigators say that's when an unidentified man was stabbed.

Everyone involved then ran to their cars, parked under the bridge at I-35 near APD headquarters.  One of the cars sped off, mowing down a number of pedestrians in or near the Wendy's parking lot.

Two people were taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge with leg and knee injuries.  Another refused treatment.

Investigators say they're not sure about some important details in this case -- including how many people were involved in the fight, and exactly how many pedestrians were hit.

Witnesses describe the car as a gold or tan four-door model, and police say while no one has been arrested, they are looking for what they call a person of interest in this case.

The man who was stabbed went home and called 9-1-1 from there.  We're told he's going to be OK.
