AUSTIN -- Austin police have released the name of a man who died early Wednesday morning after being stabbed.

Robert Spencer Manning, 22, died from the injuries he sustained in a physical altercation with several people inside the Country Garden Inn and Suites off I-35 near Woodward Avenue.

APD homicide detectives call it an isolated incident.

APD Cpl. Chad Martinka said three to four men were involved in a disturbance at the motel around 3:30 in the morning. Martinka said two men suffered stab wounds. One of the victims was found near the front office of the motel.

Paramedics rushed both victims to University Medical Center Brackenridge where Manning later died.

Martinka said the men were staying at the motel, but it’s unclear if they knew each other or what sparked the disturbance.

“We’re talking to a couple of people at this time. We don’t know exactly how many people [may be involved]. If there’s anybody who got away or not,” said Martinka.

Officers will also talk to other motel guests.

“They’ll go from door to door and see if anybody heard anything, witnessed anything and try to get some more information,” Martinka said.

The investigation is ongoing.
