A LEGO convention in Southeast Austin called “Brick Fiesta” is offering an air-conditioned alternative to a Fourth of July holiday weekend on area lakes.
The Texas LEGO Users Group or "TEX LUG" organized the event that drew a big crowd Saturday morning. The group is made up of LEGO fans from across the state.
LEGO builders displayed their works of art at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark. Displays included a replica of the UT Tower and the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360.
Anthony Sava of Houston showed off an incredibly detailed cathedral among other projects. It includes stained glass windows made of LEGO pieces and even a bell tower. It took Sava two months to design and four months to build the project.
“I've studied a lot of people's work to get all the techniques necessary. There are bricks facing every single direction,” Sava said.
A life size figure of Batman is also on display. Thirteen year old Evan Bacon of Austin created the Superhero.
"I started designing this in August. When I had the full design I started building this in April, so three months to build," said Bacon.
Bacon hopes to one day become a master LEGO builder. He has already started his own company called, "Bacon Bricks." He is selling the replica Batman for $7,500.
Brick Fiesta runs Saturday from 10 AM until 4 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM until 3 PM. It's happening at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark. The address is 4140 Governor's Row.
General admission for adults is $10. A family pass for two adults and two children is $20. Children six years old and younger are free.
