AUSTIN – Some 250,000 to 300,000 people are expected to pack into downtown Austin from Friday through Sunday for Austin Fan Fest.
The event is how Formula 1 and other sponsors thank Austin for hosting the F1 race for the second year.
People from all over the world flocked downtown for Austin Fan Fest, which gave F1 fans a chance to spend time in downtown Austin and experience what Austin has to offer -- food, drinks and live music.
However, Fan Fest attendees weren't just race fans. Many Austinites who weren't attending the race also showed up to join the festivities.
Fans said the festival is part of the F1 experience and will keep them coming back.
"Austin is a great host city," said James Nyazai, an F1 fan from Dallas. "They really throw the red carpet out. They give the fans a great time. We came last year and had a blast, so we came back this year."
Just down the street at the Austin Convention Center was the Motostalgia Action D'Elegance, which showcased rare cars from around the world.
The hosts of the Motostalgia event said that stars like Cameron Diaz, Joe Jonas, Ozzy Osbourne and Lenny Kravitz had registered to attend the auction.
