Austin Energy sets up Zilker tree

An Austin holiday tradition is back. Tuesday, crews from Austin Energy set up the famous Zilker Park tree.

The tree -- actually one of the city's moonlight towers -- contains more than 3,100 colored lights on 39 streamers.

For more than four decades, Austinites have twirled themselves dizzy beneath the lights.

The tree is traditionally lit on the first Sunday in December, but according to the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, the date for this year's ceremony hasn't been set yet.
