AUSTIN -- For two days residents at the Forest Hills apartment complex have gone without electricity. They can no longer use air conditioning, take a hot shower, use a refrigerator or cook with their electric powered stoves.
"You think they are going to take care of you, but whenever you go and reach out to them they really pretty much don't care," said Forest Hills resident Amy Galena.
Residents say the apartment management tells them a different story every time they call. The complex has, so far, not reimbursed residents for spoiled food or offered to pay for a hotel stay, but managers say they will work with residents.
"Yesterday when I talked to them, they pretty much said prepare for the worst, get candles and stuff like that," said Galena.
"I'm just worried about my dogs and my fish and my mice; it's going to be hot in there," said resident Joe Lane.
Austin Energy says power will not be restored until the complex fixes a cable. Apartment management says they had to order a replacement part from Houston and promises electricity will be back on by midnight.
Austin Code Compliance is investigating. Officers say they will cite the complex Wednesday morning if the power is not restored. They urge all residents to call 3-1-1 as soon as they experience any type of problem to report it.
