AUSTIN -- A sting on the University of Texas campus has landed a man in the Travis County Jail.
As we told you in a KVUE Defenders investigation last May, UT police use bait bikes to catch bicycle thieves. They are equipped with a GPS tracking device that lets officers locate the bikes when they're stolen.
David Benazeraf is charged with theft. According to his arrest affidavit, he took one of the bait bikes Sunday evening from a bike rack along Red River. A short time later officers found the bike inside a van downtown. It had been disassembled.
Benazeraf has previous convictions for theft and drug possession.
