AUSTIN -- The Formula 1 race is less than two weeks away.

On Wednesday Police Chief Art Acevedo and U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul discussed the lessons learned from the Boston Marathon when it comes to safety.

The chief says the bombing drove home that terrorism isn't just a federal fight. He says the Austin Police Department is part of the effort to scan for potential threats.

"There are no specific threats, but we all know that a sporting event and events where there are large groups of people are always a potential," Chief Acevedo said.

The chief says one lesson learned from Boston is to use more canine officers at the Circuit of the Americas track and throughout the city of Austin.
