AUSTIN -- An Austin police officer has been fired after being arrested for drunk driving.
Ricardo Zapata was stopped by a Department of Public Safety trooper on Aug. 30 in Bastrop County.
He was pulled over for a broken brake light and the trooper smelled alcohol on Zapata. His blood alcohol level came back more than twice the legal limit.
His legal case is pending in Bastrop County, but Friday at an Austin Police Department disciplinary hearing, APD Chief Art Acevedo suspended Zapata indefinitely.
Zapata does have a right to appeal his termination.
