The Austin Police Department has announced the results of its 'No Refusal' initiative Saturday night. The initiative was put in place to help deter revelers celebrating Mardi Gras from driving drunk.
APD says 21 people were arrested for DWI between 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 5:00 a.m. Sunday. Seven of those were arrested after consenting to breath tests. The other 14 were arrested after having blood tests done. Twelve of those drivers refused breath tests and authorities got search warrants for blood draws. One consented to a blood test and one was a mandatory draw.
APD will have another 'No Refusal' night on Tuesday on Mardi Gras night.
