AUSTIN -- The use of force by Austin police has drawn some criticism within the community. Last week on Midday KVUE spoke to Jim Harrington, the founder and director of the Texas Civil Rights Project.
"The police chief is unable, or unwilling to curtail this," Harrington told KVUE. "I think the monitor that we have to watch the police is ineffective. I think the DA is complacent and not prosecuting any of these officers, and the city council is in a position where it's hands off, or the city manager is derelict. I think there's a lot of blame that goes all around so that the police don't feel responsible for using the amount of excessive force that they're using."
Austin Police Department Chief Art Acevedo spoke to KVUE with his response to Harrington's comments. Click the player above to hear what Acevedo had to say.
