AUSTIN -- Opponents of the $892 million Austin Independent School District school bond package are ramping up their campaign.
Members of the Travis County Taxpayers Union announced they're filing a lawsuit accusing the district of inappropriately promoting the bond.
The district estimates taxes would increase roughly $70 a year for the average homeowner, but opponents say that's misleading.
Don Zimmerman points out the language on the ballot leaves the tax rate open.
"They're giving an optimistic estimate of what the taxes could be. They could be that amount. They actually could be less, but they could be far more. They could be double that amount," said Zimmerman.
The bond election is scheduled for May 11. Early voting begins April 29.
