AUSTIN -- Fire crews say the fire which broke out at a South Austin storage facility was intentionally set.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. Thursday at Public Storage on South Congress Avenue. When Austin Fire Department crews showed up, flames were shooting through units.

AFD says there is evidence of someone breaking into the facility. The gate to the complex had been in the open position for the past week. Neighbors nearby say they saw people coming in and out of the facility during that time.

Lt. Eddie Martinez with AFD tells KVUE that someone called 911 reporting smoke. About 30 firefighters worked to put out the fire, which had stopped burning by 6:15 a.m.

No injuries were reported. A unit in building K was damaged in the fire. About 60 other units have smoke damage.
