BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old boy accidentally shot his 8-year-old brother with a gun he found in a closet at his grandparents' Baton Rouge home.

The Advocate reports that the 8-year-old was shot on his shoulder and taken to a hospital Saturday for treatment of injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

A spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said the 12-year-old found the gun, a .380-caliber pistol, on the top shelf of a closet.

No charges were immediately filed, but the shooting remained under investigation.
