HOUSTON – An after-school fight ended in gunfire Friday afternoon in northwest Harris County.
About 100 students had gathered for the fight near a bayou in the 19000 block of Sandelford.
During the melee, someone pulled out a gun and started firing into a crowd.
One student was hit by a bullet and seriously injured.
A Life Flight helicopter rushed him to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. He is expected to survive.
The students were from Cypress Lakes High School.
Residents say the fights have become all too common.
"This is right next to the school so pretty much as soon as they're off school property they feel like they can come out here and get it on," said Joub, a student who lives nearby. "The neighbors and everybody are getting sick of it, I guess, because they're calling the cops and stuff now."
Several students were questioned at the scene, but there's no word if any charges have been filed.
