DALLAS -- A police officer was shot and wounded in Northeast Dallas on Saturday afternoon, a high-ranking source confirmed to News 8.

The incident happened as the officer was responding to a domestic incident incidednt at an apartment complex at 13030 Audelia Road.

A source told News 8 that the victim was taken to Baylor University Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds to the leg and shoulder. Chief David Brown arrived at the hospital a short time later.

According to initial reports, a suspect was at large. Authorities have not released a description.

Police could be seen looking for evidence near the shooting scene around a sedan with multiple bullet holes in the rear window.

Other police agencies — including Carrollton, Denton and Dallas ISD — immediately tweeted best wishes to the wounded officer and colleagues.
