ONALASKA, Texas – Four armed men walked into a pawn shop Friday morning and tried to rob the place -- bullets went flying.

In the small community of Onalaska, things like this just don’t happen, according to residents.

“It’s unusual here,” said Onalaska Detective John Maddox. “I’ve been here in this county for right at 25 years … and this is very rarely heard of.”

The owner was hit twice, but was able to fire back and hit one of the robbers twice.

“Well it’s kind of scary because in this town, it’s very steady,” said George Ramos. “Nobody does that kind of stuff.“

They dropped the rifle as they ran under a hail of fire. The suspects crashed their car when deputies in Walker County tried to stop them and a short while later they were all under arrest.

Meanwhile, people in Onalaska just can’t get over what happened to a man many here consider a friend.

"I've done business with him more than once," said Melvin Harris. "He's a great guy."
