ROME, ITALY --  An Italian newspaper is reporting that a flight attendant on a Charlotte-bound US Airways flight was detained Sunday at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport after trying to board the plane with a disassembled revolver and ammunition in her carry-on luggage.

The flight attendant was identified as 60 years old by the Gazetta del Sud, but her name was not released.

US Airways spokesman Davien Anderson said the airline is aware of the incident, but couldn’t comment further.

“Airline officials are in contact, and cooperating with, local authorities,” Anderson said.

The Gazetta reported that the flight attendant had a .40-caliber Sig Sauer revolver, disassembled, in her carry-on. She was also reportedly carrying 40 rounds of ammunition, five of which had been fired.

According to the Gazetta, the flight attendant told authorities she brought the gun from the U.S. She is being held and investigated by the local prosecutor’s office.
