SAN ANTONIO -- Texas Senator Leticia Van De Putte's father died Friday in a major accident on Loop 410 and Perrin Beitel.
At least 10 units were called out according to the San Antonio Fire Department's active call list.
An 82-year-old Daniel San Miguel, Jr. was driving at a "high rate of speed" south on Perrin Beitel when he struck two cars, one was a Chevy cargo van while the other was parked at a Carl's Jr. by the driver.
The drivers of the two cars that were struck were OK. The 82-year-old man received CPR and the jaws of life were needed to extract him from the car, according to Christian Bove of SAFD.
Police reports indicate San Miguel may have had a medical episode that contributed to the crash, according to a press release.
He was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
San Miguel was an Army veteran and a native of San Antonio. His death comes just a few months after the death of the senator's grandson.
