HAYS COUNTY, Texas -- A wreck involving an SUV and senior center bus has left two people dead and five people injured.

Buda police said the incident took place in Buda around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on FM 2770 (Jack C. Hays Trail), west of Main Street.

Police say 68-year-old William Bevill swerved his red SUV into the small bus lane and hit the bus on its side.

Bevill died. One passenger from the Creekside Villas Senior Village Apartments also died. Her leg was amputated in the accident and she died on the way to the hospital. She has been identified as 74-year-old Joyce Wilkerson.

Five others were injured, one of them critically. Buda police told KVUE that they are now listed in stable condition.

FM 2770 was closed in the 200 block near Main Street due to the accident for a while. It was reopened around 5:15 p.m.

Buda Police will shut down the road Wednesday afternoon for several hours to recreate the scene.

They are now awaiting autopsy results to determine why the driver swerved without braking.
