How long does it take to catch a wild hog? Competitors are lining up to find out.
Starting Friday night the small town of Sabinal will be wild-hog headquarters for several thousand people this weekend. It's all in an effort to catch a hog by the hand.
March 23-24 is the 26th annual Wild Hog Festival in Sabinal, Texas. They have a population of only 1,500, but this weekend they expect more than 10,000 people to show up.
Some of the animals weigh up to 100 pounds. The hogs aren’t killed or harmed and are leased out just for this weekend.
The pen is circular in shape so as to avoid any corners. Usually the hog will try to jump the fence but doesn't make it very far. Once one of the team grabs the hog, the other tries to bag it. Then they run it over to a line, and drop it.
"If you're good at it, you have the technique down, you get one of the prized possessions: a buckle, a belt buckle,” said Sabinal Mayor Louis Landeros.
