LEAGUE CITY, Texas -- Police in League City say a double amputee led them on a wild chase over a stolen bag of candy.
Employees at an area H-E-B say they observed the man and his 18-year-old son stealing a bag of candy. They gave police descriptions. Soon, several officers were on the men's tail.
Officers say they saw the 18-year-old throw the bag of candy out of the car window. They say vehicle reached speeds of over 100 mph before coming to a halt.
"Once we were able to get everybody handcuffed and searched, we determined the driver was using a walking cane to operate the accelerator and brake," said Sgt. Tamara Spencer.
The 39-year-old double amputee is being held on $60,000 bail, and his son is being held on $5,000 bail. The duo has six prior theft convictions.
